Easy Hacks to Make Your Internet Work Faster
There are a lot of things in the world that can be profoundly annoying, and one of them that tops the charts is a slow internet connection. You could be in the middle of playing your favorite online game or even watching your favorite show and at the most unlikely moment, your internet would stop working.
The first thing that you should do is to get an internet connection that is already popular for its internet service in the United States, something like Spectrum Internet. However, if the issue still persists, there are some hacks that you can try at home that will definitely make your internet work faster.
Today, we will be talking about those hacks so make sure that you read all the way to the end of the article so that you can try out these hacks as well. Remember, these are hacks that we have tried ourselves and we found them to be quite effective. So let’s not wait any further and get right into it!
Restart Your Modem or Router
Starting off with the easiest hack of them all, restarting your modem. When you keep your modem running for too long, it is very likely that it may start glitching. The same goes for your router too. In that case, it would be a great idea if you restart both your modem and router.
This allows both the devices to run through a power cycle and refreshes the system inside making sure that your router and modem get rid of all the potential bugs and glitches and they would restore their function. This is the first step you should take to improve your internet speed. We do it too and it works every time.
Reposition Your Router
The next thing that you can try to do is to reposition your router to a place where you feel like the signals would travel the best. If you keep your modem or router in a confined place or at a corner of your house, the signals will have a hard time traveling uniformly through the house.
However, you can fix that by placing your router or modem in a place that is more central in your house and somewhere where the router or modem isn’t interrupted by pieces of furniture or walls. Once the signals start traveling with uniformity in the house, you will see that your internet is performing a lot better. This is also something that we have tried and tested ourselves and we can easily say that this is a hack that definitely works.
Change Your WiFi Frequency Band
Did you know that your modem or router is able to transmit signals at two respective bands, 2.4GHz and 5GHz? The 2.4GHz is more commonly used because it gives you a lot of signal range and can make sure that every device in the house is connected to the internet. However, the 5GHz band works differently as it gives you a shorter range but gives you stronger internet signals, making sure that your internet speed is faster than before.
So depending on whether you want more range or more speed, you can change the band at which your internet signals are transmitted. For more range, use the 2.4GHz band but for more speed and lesser range, use the 5GHz frequency band. The 2.4GHz band can easily pass through walls but the 5GHz band will have a harder time doing so.
Try Setting the Antennas on your Router
Another thing that you can try is to set your router’s antennas so that it can transmit signals more efficiently. Remember that antennas are omnidirectional, you can tweak them until you feel like your internet is performing better.
One more thing to remember is that signals are transmitted perpendicular to the position of the antenna, meaning that if your antenna is set straight up, the signals will move to the sides and if the antennas are set horizontally, the signals will travel up or down perpendicular to the position of the antenna. However, remember that you can only do this with routers that have visible and moveable antennas.
Go Wired!
While using the internet, you have two options. You may either choose to use the internet wirelessly, or you may create a wired connection for better internet performance. If you use the internet wirelessly, it would definitely give you the convenience of using your internet from afar but the signals will also dissipate into the air, causing the internet to become slower.
However, you can also choose to use the internet through the use of an Ethernet cable that directly connects your device to the modem/router. This way, no signals are able to dissipate into the air and this makes your internet a lot faster than what it would be wirelessly.
Conclusive Note
Having a fast internet connection is one of the happiest feelings that you can experience. Before you start panicking the next time your internet becomes slow, just use these super easy hacks and you will definitely see an improvement in the speed of your internet connection!
