Space-Saving Ideas For Small Bedrooms

Bedrooms are somewhere to relax and unwind, and are designed to be the place for you to recover at the end of each day. But when a bedroom feels cramped and cluttered, it can feel anything but relaxing. Working with a small bedroom can have its challenges, but there are ways you can make it feel more spacious, while ensuring you have everything you need.

Check out these space-saving ideas for small bedrooms that will make a real difference to how it looks and feels.

1. Choose a smaller bed

Choosing a smaller bed can feel like giving in to the fact that you have a small bedroom, but it should be the opposite. Switching to a slightly smaller bed, like a king to a queen, can create a little extra room, while still being comfortable. The extra space created by the bed could give you room to walk around easily, or add a bedside table, bringing in more value than losing a few inches might do.

As an added small bedroom tip, choose an ottoman bed style that you can use as storage for bedding, clothes, towels, etc. It will make a big difference and will hide away all of your clutter.

2. Make the most of wall space

If you don’t have much floor space, why not make use of the walls instead? Wall-mounting your bedside table or using brass wall lights instead of bedside lamps can create a lot more space, while keeping things stylish and practical. Another option is to run a shelf along the top of your headboard, which can give you some useful storage solutions. While you don’t want your walls to look cluttered, adding some things to them will make a huge difference to your bedroom.

3. Pick useful storage solutions

If you have a small bedroom, it may be worth moving some things out of there, like closets or chests, to other spaces to save room. But if that’s not really an option, you should try to invest in some useful storage solutions instead. The perfect vanity for a small bedroom would be a corner style, with fold-in drawers that can be tucked away when not needed. For clothes storage, under-bed solutions are great as they keep things hidden out of sight, while tall boys can give you a lot of storage without taking up loads of floor space.

4. Keep your color scheme light

A light color scheme can help your room feel much bigger and brighter, especially if your bedroom lacks natural light. Explore some classic bedroom colors to help you find something suitable. Small bedrooms should avoid patterns or busy walls, as these will make the space feel smaller, and may not have the same design impact that they would in a larger space.

While small bedrooms aren’t always ideal, you can work with yours to make it more appealing. Consider how you can save space and keep things clutter-free for a bedroom that feels open and relaxing, even if the square footage isn’t huge.
